Hippocrisy alert!
Christie's travel records / What's the secret?Posted: Friday, December 17, 2010 12:01 am
"One: New Jersey now has a governor who travels around the nation extensively, touting his approach to government, endorsing Republican candidates and expanding his already-vast YouTube oeuvre of Chris Christie moments.
Two: This is a governor who, when he was U.S. attorney for New Jersey, routinely exceeded federal ceilings on travel expenses, according to the U.S. Justice Department inspector general.
So, wouldn't you like to see Christie's travel and expense records since taking office last January?
We sure would. The Philadelphia Inquirer wanted to see them, too. But its request under the Open Public Records Act was denied by the Governor's Office. The state Democratic Party had only slightly better luck. It received 66 pages in travel documents after the party filed its own OPRA request - but the documents were heavily redacted and provided few details.
That's unacceptable. And it is hypocritical of Christie, who promotes himself as a tight-fisted watchdog of the taxpayers' money and a proponent of transparency in government."What is Chris Christie hiding? Plenty, as always.
