Under Corbett, "School Choice" Can Include Municipalities Switching to Richer Whiter School District

For many years, whenever a municipality sought to switch to a different school district, the answer from the state was always no. The boundaries are set - school districts are welcome and encouraged to merged together, but a municipality cannot change districts. That is because districts need to do long-term budgeting and planning and can't be suddenly faced with a big increase or decrease in students.

Now, the Corbett Administration has overturned previous decisions of the Dept. of Education and is allowing the Borough of Reigelsville to shift from the Easton Area School District to the Palisades Area School District. Easton Area has a large minority population, Palisades does not.

The Corbett Administration loves "school choice." That involves slashing funding of urban school districts, and then taking even more money away from them so private schools can cherry pick their best students. That "leaves behind" the poor districts with the students who require the most resources per student. Drop dead, you weren't going to vote Republican anyway.
