No excuse for no district election  By Heber Taylor The Daily News Published August 29, 2006 - Updated 51 minutes ago Gov. Rick Perry should call a special election to fill the unexpired representative term in the 22nd Congressional District. There’s some urgency to this request. The deadline for calling a special election is today. The district has been without a congressman since June, when former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay resigned in the middle of a scandal. On Nov. 7, voters will decide which candidate will assume the seat when Congress convenes in January.
