I think it was Sci American that profiled him before election, reported that in a small race early in his career, Rove hand delivered a hateful flyer against his own candidate on doorsteps late one night. Of course, voters blamed the oppponent for the obviously false accusations Rove printed in the flyer. Rove's candidate won.
