Where I vote, we have the ballots that you connect the arrows with a marker and then the ballot goes into a machine and they get counted. I've always felt confident that our votes get counted properly (prior to having these, we had the old fashioned pull machines with the curtains). If we ever switch to touch-screen in Michigan, I'll do absentee if I have to.
I also want to 1) get Kerry into the White House on Jan. 20, 2005, or 2) somehow get Bush out at a later date, however, exposing the problems to the general public and effecting major changes in the process are of the utmost importance as well. We need a uniform process for national elections and whatever this process is, it needs to have a paper trail and need to be as untamperable as possible. I think the easier, the better. Either all mail-in like they do in Oregon or paper ballot and a writing instrument -- check-off your candidate and have the votes counted by hand. Sometimes the KISS principle is the best -- Keep It Simple, Stupid! -- and the least expensive.
