I think Kerry is daring them to start the Republican Noise Machine
The media is probably a little complicit with Kerry--remember there are heroes there--Paul Krugman is nobody's monkey--and what about the pounding the NYTs gave Bushites about that ammo dump---just prior to the election--these guys are not Bush's best buddies although they frequently his patsies

A few indirect signs that the administration may be facing some tough times:
1) Bush has disappeared, as far as I know--he didn't even make a statement about the oceanic catastrophe until it became painfully obvious he was missing in action--has anyone seen him since the news conference? Was the news conference canned?
2)Rush Limbaugh seems especially jittery especially prior to the elections--any questions about why this guy takes truckloads of narcotics?
3)The administration could not wait two weeks to get the new team in place--gives the election that well needed aura of legitimacy
