11. Febble and OTOH refer to the 1992 exit poll errors fairly frequently....
... they are the principle piece of evidence to discount the fact that exit polls since 2000 (or perhaps even 1998?) have been problematic.

WHat is not included in this explanation is the fact that when the polls started going awry the NEP exit pollster - Mitofsky - geared up majorly and conducted much more detailed much larger exit polls to attempt to correct the problems.

As we know this failed.

The 2002 exit poll was conducted but the results were not released on the night as it was considered flawed. There was a suggestion for a while after the second failure on the run 2000/2002 that the poll would be cancelled altogether.

Instead the NEP reformed and conducted the problematic 2004 poll.

Now Mitofsky has died and someone else is presumably at the helm of the 2006 poll.

DISCLAIMER: All this is off the top of my addled mind and Febble and OTOH will be able to correct me on the numerous errors in my above explanation.
