Both claim they're the 'correct' way of thinking. Both are/can be either passive/aggressive or in your face. Both can be seen as offensive by the intended target.
The only way this is a false equivalency is if you boil it down to something like: "people can wear t-shirts but not billboards", at which point, you would have descended into asininity.
