NJ Senate Appointment Gets High Marks On Gay Issues

New Jersey Gov.-elect Jon Corzine on Friday appointed Democratic Rep. Robert Menendez to serve out the remaining year in Corzine's Senate term.

Menendez has a strong record of fairness on LGBT issues, according to the Human Rights Campaign's congressional scorecard. He received a congressional career rating of 91 percent on the HRC scorecard, "siding with equality and fairness 43 out of 47 scored votes, co-sponsorships and pledges."

"Rep. Menendez will be an advocate for fairness in the Senate," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "We congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to working with him as a U.S. Senator."
