Many people break their necks but are fortunate enough not to damage their spinal cords in a permanent way. Edema is quite often transient; it increases the *risk* of permanent cord damage, by reducing oxygen supply, but it doesn't always lead to permanent damage by any means.
So Suzette Foster was very fortunate in the temporary though serious nature of her injury, and no doubt in the treatment that she received. I am very glad that she recovered completely. But it is not because she 'embraced the interconnectedness of her mind, body and spirit' and the suggestion is frankly insulting to Christopher Reeve and the many others who have suffered permanent damage to their spinal cords - as though somehow they could have *made* themselves recover if they made enough spiritual effort!
