7. I'll second that.
Too many docs start you out on some expensive new drug that's been hyped by the pharm reps when there's an inexpensive generic that would work about as well.

There are a few meds I've had to discontinue, or have never started, because they are simply too expensive.

It's always better to have something that works well enough and is affordable, than something that may or may not work better, but will turn out to be unaffordable... especially psych medicines which you can't stop taking just because you don't have enough money to refill the prescription.

A lot of doctors have no idea the relative costs of medicines. Your example, Celexa is a good one. It's heavily advertised relative, Lexapro, is going to be the one most doctors think about first because the pharm reps have told them how wonderful it is, and handed out samples to them. But that generic Celexa may work as well for you and cost a lot less.
