KUSC Pledge Drive, you can volunteer

And I think if you do, then the pledge drive will not bother you so much, if it does bother you.
I will not give you any of the saccharine business about how wonderful it is. It is not. It is work, the food is free, but not that good anymore, and not that abundant.
Some of the people are nice and polite, but not all of them. Many are obnoxious, etc., just like anywhere else.
But. You will answer calls and take pledges. The people do not want to talk to you. They just want to pledge. So take the pledge and move on to the next caller. They need to get back to work, to earn the money to donate.
You will save the station $5 to $10 per hour that they may pay the answering service.
So that will be your donation. And believe me, the answering service is not particularly good, I can say from experience.
You will not learn much of anything about the music. Because no one will know. Unless you are inspired to go out and learn. Maybe the library, or music stores.
Then when you come in and there is a question, you may know the answer.
I say this as I have been a volunteer for more than 10 years. And more than probably 250 hours.
So I have seen it all. And heard all the stories, and been amazed at how some of the people know nothing about the music.
And then, when the drive is over, I am glad to listen to regular programming again, and to continue an occasional study about the music.
After all, I never listen to any other station.
