Today I started a year-long weight loss study under Dr's supervision

My internist does drug studies for some big pharmaceutical companies. I started on a year-long weight loss study today, under his care. I am taking a twice-daily medication for a year, in addition to dietary changes, and daily exercise. We don't know if we are taking the 'real' deal or on a placebo. However, my Dr. says that even if we are on the placebo, every one still loses weight- it just depends how much. i.e. if you are on the 'real' medication, you will be losing more than the placebo group.

This particular drug targets a specific part of the hypothalamus, telling it you are full. You ingest it one hour before breakfast, and then again one hour before dinner. It also increases your metabolism rate. We are the last (and third) study before FDA approval. There have been 2 previous studies that were both successful, so it is highly likely our group will also be successful, and the drug will attain FDA approval.

While participating in this study, I feel like I can make some real headway into losing the weight that has been such a hindrance to me We have weekly weigh-ins, food diaries, caloric limits, and prescribed exercise. We have to wear a pedometer daily taking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day, in addition to our exercise routine. My exercise, to start, is to walk 3 times a week for at least one-half hour per session; that is definitely do-able.

Since the program is a year, I am hoping that I will develop some new habits that will feel 'normal' after awhile. The great thing also, is that Mr. ld is also a participant in the study with me, so his support and help will be very valuable to me.

I will keep you all posted on what is happening and how I am doing. :hi:
