seen checking into a motel or hotel.

Of course he did not think the guy would tattle - he is a male escort (a really bigger sinner) thus much more compromised than Ted. And, Ted truly thinks being gay is the worse thing in the world and no one would ever out themselves - oh the shame of it all.

Apparently the good rev doesn't know that there is honor among prostitutes and hustlers.
