I had enough conversations to figure that out. He either attacked Democrats like a Green would or skirted direct questions.

I bet he was a mole from the get-go and putting up an impeachment sign was to make the middle turn against extremist Democrats and help Chaffee. And I don't even know that Chaffee knew he was doing it.

That or the guy's just a flat out nut, which is always possible too I suppose.
