..and PIGS HAVE WINGS

late yesterday evening I received a phone call from my folks. It was the "just checking in to see if you're still alive" chit-chat call.

Usually we avoid discussing politics as we are on opposite sides of the fence and very stubborn with our opinions.

let me preface with this: My Mom has been pretty liberal most of her life. But over the past few years she's drifted toward a more conservative view. She voted for bush (both times) on the "tax cut issue". last Christmas she bluntly stated she thought "BUSH WAS THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER" - she didn't elaborate.

In 2004 - she volunteered at the local polling place to help out with signing people in to vote. Just checking people against voter registration rolls. She did switch from Independent to Republican a number of years ago.

Now, my Dad is a different story. He had been a registered independent for years. He switched to Republican during the Reagan years, and then back to independent during the Bush-1 years. He still remains an independent.

His political views make Rush Limbaugh look like a screaming-flaming liberal. 99% of the time he votes for a straight republican ticket, and as of our last political discussion (Christmas 2005) - he still backed bush/repubs.

last night - the Pigs grew wings and were flying in formation over the skies of Minneapolis.

My mom told me she was asked by local repub party to help with getting out the vote. She told them No, she couldn't support the republicans any more and she was voting DEMOCRATIC this year and will be switching from republican to Independent.

My Dad, who rarely talks on the phone is in the background telling my mom to give him the phone. He tells me I was right about bush/republicans, but he can't bring himself to vote Democratic - so he won't be voting this year except for the real local candidates in city/town slots.
