Boy, That Abraham Lincoln Sure is Inexperienced

My fellow liberals, the republic is in peril! And yet, at this moment of peril comes the possibility of greatest joy! With the Democrats thoroughly divided and the Know-Nothings and Whigs completely shattered, our new Republican Party stands to win the next election.

May I put in a word against the current front-runner, Mr. Lincoln.

What, I ask, has Mr. Lincoln ever done?

One term in the U.S. House of Representatives twenty years ago does not a great man make.

We know he is eloquent. He debates well. But I want a man of substance, someone who has accomplished something.

We need a man like William Seward or Salmon Chase! Someone with years of government experience under their belt. Should we win the next election, the union may well fall apart. We may have a Civil War and how can we trust someone like Mr. Lincoln to deal with that threat? No, we need a man of talent, with a long record of accomplishment.

Mr. Lincoln, for that matter, is a "flip-flopper," who says one thing to one audience and another to another.

Oh, and his religious rhetoric really turns me off!
