The statue of the nation's 40th president will be one of the features of the trailhead at New Hampshire and Lockwood streets -- along with an amphitheater, visitors center, bell tower and wading fountain.
Covington officials plan to seek bids on the $1.2 million trailhead project in February with construction expected to take about a year, City Councilman Trey Blackall said. But in the meantime, the statue commissioned a year ago is nearing completion and is expected to be delivered to the city around March.
"We need a nice Republican warehouse," Blackall said.Myself, I'd always thought Gitmo would make a nice Republican warehouse...
This is right across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, folks, so you can combine your upcoming trip to the city (you are going next year, right?) with hours of family fun. For openers, the wading fountain could just as easily double as a public toilet. Or, if you're coming over from Austin, bring a few bats along with you and put 'em in the bell tower, so the Reagan memorial will have bats in the belfry, in the interest of historical accuracy.
Come on, Evil DUers, do your worst!
