reader's perception. And as can be seen from this thread alone, I guarantee you 4 out of 5 people reading it would perceive it with the negative connotation of sarcasm that we are viewing it with. That is what matters, what the readers will get from its context. I think it's great to see it written that way regardless of what the author intended for us to perceive from it.
