Chernobyl was aided and abetted by the fact that the
carbon (graphite) moderator of the reactor was burning
in a conventional fire and that helped loft much of
the radioactive decay products high into the atmosphere.

Then again, I don't know what type of reactor we'd
be destroying; graphite-moderated reactors were still
pretty popular for plutonium and tritium generation
even here in the good-old U.S. of A. up until quite
recently so that might very well be what theIranians
have.
