in response to the ill-bred lout, right-wing nut columnist in The Oregonian who plays the liberals-want-Iraq-failure card:
Don't Insult War Opponents
No doubt I’m not the only Oregonian reader who noticed just who David Reinhard’s sources were in his assertion that Iraq is not plunging into civil war ("Are we losing an unwinnnable, unjustified war?" 3/19/06). Next time, he wants to advance such an implausible argument he’d be better off to quote someone other than his two ultra-right-wing sources – Ralph Peters on realclearpolitics.com and Victor Davis Hanson with The Hoover Institution on National Review Online. But then, more moderate voices with that view are nearly impossible to come by.
What’s more, these were the same sort of mouthpieces who helped propagate the lies that led to this immoral – and yes, likely “unwinnable” – war. And of course, it’s civil war. The two major factions fighting it and killing innocents everyday have held centuries-long ethnic and religious differences. Many of us who opposed the “shock-and-awe” bombings and bloodbath that followed expected this would happen.
Finally, despite Mr. Reinhard’s supposition that war opponents relish Iraq-war failures, most of wish for a successful peace. It’s an insult for him to suggest otherwise.
