The man is both ignorant and stubborn -- a bad combination at the best of times, and in someone with his job, it's a surefire recipe for major screw-ups. And he's already had a bunch of them. The thing is, he's got people who are so loyal (or so intimidated) that they will take the fall for him ... plus the watchdogs who ought to be doing their job, the opposition and the media, have been crushed or co-opted. Until something happens to activate those watchdogs, Achilles will remain propped-up.
