6. it means this..quoted from JFK...
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of "Liberal." But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."

John Fitzgerald Kennedy

and these are top of my lists..
i use often..

Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.
– Harry S. Truman

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, in a final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
– Dwight Eisenhower, April 16, 1953

Dissent

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
-- Margaret Mead

When we got into office, the thing that surprised me most was to find that things were just as bad as we'd been saying they were.
– John F. Kennedy

War should never be entered upon until every agency of peace has failed.
– William McKinley, March 4, 1897

The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.
– George Washington, Treaty of Tripoli, 1796

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.
– Thomas Jefferson, February 10, 1814

The more I study it , the more I have come to admire it, realizing that no other document devised by the hand of man ever brought so much progress and happiness to humanity.
– Calvin Coolidge, 1929
