... and all, they know that Cheney was probably stumbling drunk, walking around with the safety off, then wheeled and fired on one of Bush's buddies from Bush's days as governor. They also know that a year from now, Cheney will be saying much the same about this as he did about WMDs--that he was right. Ol' Dick will be whining, "I shot at a quail," and they'll all be agreeing, "yup, yup, that's it alright, the other guy was in the way."

Defending the indefensible is what small-minded and easily-led people do best.
