According to Malloy the 2 parties are exactly the same and as such it's hard for anyone as astute and sophisticated as he is to just be a good soldier and support the democrats through his program in the name of solidarity, 8 weeks before election day.
So he decided to tear down the candidate and the party. At least that's what I got from listening to his program the last couple of weeks. There is no mention of grassroots organizing or giving Obama a progressive Congress. That "building a New Deal Coalition" idea never crosses his maverick mind. Not only that, if you even mention these practical issues you get dropped by Malloy or his screener like a hot potato.
It seems to me that along with Nader and a few pseudo progressives, Malloy couldn't give a damn about the idea of changing people's lives through government, which is how we define "progressivism" since La Follette, because other than bashing Obama's strategic decision to move to the right, Malloy has no practical ideas of how one could get into elected office in this country today and effect real change without the votes of the current US electorate.
