13. It is actually that simple
It doesn't make any sense, but that is how it works. Once the person has their first hearing (called the Master Hearing), he/she then applies for cancellation of removal and, with it, work authorization, which is usually granted within 90 days. The immigrant then has an individual hearing. Here is MA, it takes about a 1 1/2 years between those two hearings. Usually, the judge will make an up or down decision at the individual hearing, which can be appealed.This law does not solve the immigration issue. That is what common sense people who understands the problem have been saying it all along.
