A) No, nobody believes raising the limit will not result in more debt. That was a slight straw-man on Sanders' part.

B)You make a good point about all the Democrats voting against the debt ceiling in 2006 and all the Republicans voting for it, with the situation being exactly the reverse now. In fact, the debt ceiling has been raised ten times since 2002, going from 6 Trillion to 14 Trillion.

C) Agreed on the military cuts. How about capping military spending to 2% of GDP, rather than closer to 4% as it is now? I'm sure nobody would mind if we only spent as much as the next FOUR largest military spenders combined, rather than the next EIGHT.

D) Can't completely agree with your argument on the Democrats' 2006 reasons for not extending the limit. The only people who ever talked any common sense about the national debt were the Clinton/Gingrich gang who, before the foolish tax cuts for the rich, and before the elimination of the PAYGO rules had the Congressional Budget Office forcasting that the national debt would be completely gone by 2010.

That seems pretty simple to me. Where did we go wrong? Eliminating PAYGO, cutting taxes for the rich (which did NOTHING to create jobs), and charging two wars on the credit card. What's the solution? Bring back PAYGO (which they did), put taxes in the top bracket back up to 35% (or higher), and pass a law saying that no war (or military action) can be undertaken WITHOUT a compulsory tax hike to pay for it. It would definitely cut down on the number of stupid "blood for oil" wars we'd end up fighting if the CEOs of the oil companies that profit from them would realize that every time you drop a bomb on an Arab country you get a compulsory tax hike. If we're dreaming, how about reinstating the lottery draft, and that too kicks in automatically if there is a military action. NO COLLEGE DEFERMENTS this time. Let's face it, if we'd had a compulsory tax hike and a compulsory draft every time we got involved in a major military conflict WE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD A SINGLE WAR SINCE KOREA.

The financial elites who run this plutocracy would no longer have the option of starting wars to increase their profit margin, while getting the working class to both pay for and fight it.
