So while bushjr and his spokesfolks say he had no involvement in the USA firings - he now claims executive privilege which he, to my understanding, is only supposed to claim for conversations that HE has with HIS advisor's. Thus to claim it suggests he was directly involved in discussions with Taylor and Miers. But of course we can't even find that out due to the newest assertion that not only can the WH claim executive privilege - now the US DOJ can't pursue contempt charges against individuals claiming executive privilege.

When did the DOJ become ONLY an arm of the president and not an agency that works for the people and thus at the directives of Congress?

So all Bush and company has to do is declare EVERYTHING as executive privilege - and they can act with impunity - legality be d*mned.

In my impulsive moment I think Congress should call this what it is - an ending of the DOJ. Not only bring civil contempt charges and try Miers in the Constitutional method left to them - perhaps they should discuss the funding of the DOJ overall. If the DOJ is now a direct arm of the Office of the President, then perhaps it should be funded through the Office of the President. Okay - that makes no sense as that would grind to a halt many, many investigations (as the FBI and other agencies work under the DOJ umbrella) - but this latest power grab by the WH requires something much greater than civil contempt hearings against Miers (and Bolten?).

Perhaps a president making an entire (and major) Dept of the Govt into a personal office - and a part of its political operations... should be held accountable. And the WH seems to be daring the Congress to start Impeachment hearings. Perhaps it is time for congress to take the WH up on the "I double dog dare you!" gauntlet that has been thrown down.
