Reply #7: How can anybody be embarrassed by the actions of others?

I understand feeling embarrassed for someone, in an empathic way, when they embarrass themselves. But being embarrassed personally by the actions of others is something (like when your dad tries to joke with your friends) that we get over shortly after adolescence. I thought the majority of DUers were older than that.
