I'd be careful in drawing that conclusion, about what 'normal' people do. Especially about the reactions of a public person who has been repeatedly vilified over the course of years—from her hairdo to how she dealt with her husband's infidelity—and in every public way imaginable. I imagine people build up a pretty thick skin after that. No, I don't gauge someone else's reaction by how I myself or how I suppose other people who I arbitrarily deem 'normal' would react.
