That's why he keeps this not-quite-definitive word game going. I've been a fan of Al's for twenty years and I feel for him, but this is what I see.
In his mind he's thinking 'I'll keep the door open just a little bit, in case some huge change in circumstances occurs.'
Which is ridiculous, because if some huge change occurs, like say Hillary becomes gravely ill, he won't need to have left the door open to decide to run. The change in circumstances would be sufficient all by itself to support his change in plans within about three weeks of national political turmoil, involving without a doubt a torrent of speculation around 'Will Al Gore step in to the void?'.
Al should just get off the pot and pull his pants up, because he's not going to shit on long-running Democratic plans and throw the 2008 election into turmoil when Hillary and the Dems are really starting to kick ass. He knows that about himself even if you don't know it about him.
I feel for you guys that want him to run, but you really should understand that he's not. And just because he can't quite admit it to himself doesn't mean that he hasn't given you enough evidence for you to admit it to yourselves. So deal with it.
I'm looking forward to Al heading the Dept of Energy and/or maybe the EPA. It is the best thing for us and for him too.
