Say it Ain't So
First Kucinich, now John? Say it ain't so!

Score one for the Big Money corporations in America, Edwards wouldn't play their games and never received any of their support. Maybe if only he hadn't spoken out so strongly about lobbyists and the power they possess to buy politicians and practically write their own favorable legislation . . . he might have been a more viable candidate, but he wouldn't have remained true to his beliefs.

If nothing else, this is election has provided ample evidence of the dire need for true campaign finance reform in this country. When primaries are won based not on the message of the candidate, but on how many political ads they could purchase (hellooooo Romney) then we're in serious trouble, Truthseekers.

Not that this was the only problem facing the Edwards campaign. Time magazine online said this: "What no one, not Clinton or Edwards, was prepared for was the insurgency candidacy of Senator Barack Obama. Suddenly Edwards was running against a version of himself in 2004: the young, fresh, optimistic face, the Washington outsider with a thin resume but lots of charm, ruffling some feathers as he jumped the line. Except this version was an African American celebrity candidate with a cult-like following. Big and small donors flocked to Obama, the freshman senator from Illinois, as did the endorsements, and suddenly Edwards seemed like a third wheel."

As Edwards leaves the race, his impact lives on. His populist positions will be remembered by voters and will force the two remaining Democrats to place worker's rights, universal health care and education high on their platforms.

Edwards leaves the race with dignity, knowing he fought the good fight for the American people and didn't compromise his principles, saying today: " I don't know when our party began to turn away from the cause of working people, from the fathers who were working three jobs literally just to pay the rent, mothers sending their kids to bed wrapped up in their clothes and in coats because they couldn't afford to pay for heat. We know that our brothers and sisters have been bullied into believing that they can't organize and can't put a union in the workplace. Well, in this campaign, we didn't turn our heads. We looked them square in the eye and we said, 'We see you, we hear you, and we are with you. And we will never forget you.'"

Let us never forget him, either.
