"Earlier this month, we noted that former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay had joined one of his "closest friends," Rick Scarborough of Vision America, for Sunday services at Scarborough's Texas church. Now, Vision America has helpfully posted the audio of DeLay’s rambling sermon on its website in which he explains that "America was created by God to spread the Gospel; to spread the word of Jesus Christ and to propagate Christianity":
Link to audioHis words:
I know that America was created by God and it was created by God, not for wealth, personal wealth. It wasn't created by God so that we would have the resources that we now have. It wasn't even created by God to have the freedom that we have now. America was created by God to spread the Gospel; to spread the word of Jesus Christ and to propagate Christianity. And the reason I know that is because my entire political career is exhibited by that. The Lord walked with me …I came to Christ in the first year in Congress and now I've been walking with the Lord
he has trained me and showed me why he created this nation: to spread the GospelI know the world must love the way we "propagate Christianity".
I remember something from 2007 when his book came out...when he returned to Sugarland. I got the feeling many might be disillusioned with his vision of our country.
Sugarland, TX, population 75, 754....only about 100 greet DeLay's returnLeader Tom DeLay returned to his hometown of Sugar Land today a newly published author. More than 100 supporters applauded DeLay's arrival today for a book signing. His 179-page book, "No Retreat, No Surrender" was released about 10 days ago.
DeLay resigned last year after 22 years in Congress and faces state money laundering and conspiracy charges. He's accused of using an arm of the Republican National Committee to illegally funnel corporate contributions to seven G-O-P state legislative candidates.
The conservative icon told the audience that his decision to leave Congress was "the right decision."
Since then, he said, he has been plotting the Democrats' downfall as an outsider "researching the opposition and researching the needs of the conservative movement."
