Worst President Ever

This is more than just political rhetoric. Besides the economic wreck, the international shame, and the degradation of our Constitution that his tenure has brought, this president has presided over and enabled the greatest fall in moral and ethical standards we have witnessed in this short a time.

America’s progress has always been one of slowly moving towards making things better for more and more of its citizens. Often we endure slight retrenchments from noble progress, but under bush we have not been one step forward and two steps back, but no steps forward and a complete full-scale rout and retreat from our better selves.

Two things serve as symbols of this national abrogation of our responsibilities. First is the acceptance of the republican’s nominee for vice president as a serious and plausible candidate for this office. Across the nation, journalists and pundits discuss her “merits”. At almost no level is honesty considered. Almost no one speaks nationally of the craven pandering by mccain and the low esteem for public intelligence evident in his choice. Worst, I suppose, is how justified that esteem seems to be.

More serious than this debacle is the militarization of Minnesota. Why aren’t our journalists up in arms about a police state being established inside our borders. Again, the sad part is that even when the public hears the news, it shrugs and goes shopping. Why won’t our elected officials, our Democratic members of the state and national legislature, become involved. Our laws are being broken by our law enforcement agencies. Yet we have fallen so low, that these affronts to everything American are accepted.

This president and his cronies have set the example for the country. We are truly a lesser nation now than we were eight years ago. The question has become: Have we allowed ourselves to be led into this awful state by soulless and corrupt people or are those people, bush and his administration and the neocon cabal that put them there, actually true representatives of our actual nature.

We will find out in November.
