I will be careful next time when I write how I feel and I apologize for the debate as I did not mean to spark it....as for my faith, well I do believe that it does have meaning and, due to that meaning, I realize how all of this world is quite futile and that one day none of it will matter, so therefore, I struggle with why I make it so important now....but just because I gotta know Jason...what leads you to feel/believe that 'Jesus was a bleeding heart liberal SOCIALIST'?

Well the Sermon on the Mount specifically refers to those who are poor, meek, persecuted, merciful, pure of heart, and peacemakers, of how those humans are particularly blessed, and that they will inherit the earth, and the Kingdom etc. Jesus championed for the poor. He threw money changers (the Conservatives of the day) out of the temple, ... calling them devils. Jesus never suggested that we shouldn't pay our taxes, "...give unto Caesar what is Caesars" He never suggested that it is good, or beneficial to one's spirit to be rich, "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom" saying the true reward was not in this life, and that the love of money is the root of all evil. Should I keep going? Jesus Christ was a community organizer, a Socialist, a humanist, a liberal. Shall I keep going?

also, just to clarify, I say that he was socialist in ideological terms only, it goes without saying that capitalism and socialism as we understand them today were not recognized economic systems of the time. But you can draw comparisons between the philosophies of Jesus and the people who killed him, versus so-called Liberals and Conservative Theocrats of today.

The money changers were unethical cheaters who were short changing those came to pay with their own currency..Jesus was also upset with the merchants that were selling "damaged goods" and passing them off as unblemished for sacrifice...what does this have to do with conservatism? The Bible also mentions that if you want to eat, you should work..there's a new concept!

According to the Gospels, Jesus took offense to the money changers,(extorting profit from the people to hear the word of God), and said, "My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves"
The money changers of Jesus' day are like the corrupt bankers of our day...that's what it has to do with conservatism.

Jason, you are miss reading the Sermon on the Mount. As an example, meek means strength harnessed, like a horse with a bridal. Poor in spirit means those that realize they need some One, ie. God.
Also, the money changers were cheats, they were selling inferior products for a high dollar and misusing the temple for their gain. Jesus did say the ... thing about the camel but right after He said that He said, but with God all things are possible. Please, don't misuse the Bible. Remember in Genesis Satan asked Eve, "did God really say?" If you are going to use the Bible, please get it right. I would be happy to study with you or recommend someone that could study with you. The Bible isn't about politics it is about right and wrong, Heaven and Hell.

Jim, that's just your opinion. My point is that Jesus preached against the rich, and the hoarding and gathering of wealth. He championed the rights of those who were less fortunate, who were weak, who were persecuted, and who had been forgotten and left alone and broken. While you concede that Jesus was purported to have said that it's, ".. ... easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom" you follow it up with, "But..." You know, there are no "buts" Your interpretation is yours. We can't be entirely sure what Jesus did actually say, since the Gospel Writers never knew or met him. We can safely say that he did not say, "Blessed are the warmongers, Blessed are the stock-brokers, Blessed are the ultra-wealthy, Blessed are the republicans who persecute minorities and gays, blessed are the hypocrites." Yep, we can be sure Jesus never said that.

Actually, the only gospel writer that may not have met Jesus was Luke. And the Holy Spirit was the One that gave the words to write. Remember "all Scripture is God breathed." You need to remember that people that you seem to have a problem with DO NOT represent true Christianity.

That is debatable. The gospels weren't even written until decades after the crucifixion, and that's pretty well-accepted as a fact. In politics, hypocrisy is legal tender. One can find it spent in abundance on both sides. But it is a religious expression of hypocrisy — what outraged Jesus the most — that's found in people like the Pharisees of his day and the radical reactionaries of today. Their cloak of morality, and their ostentatious embrace of Jesus, are what is so ... hypocritical. They claim Jesus while supporting policies that hurt the poor, the widows, the orphans, the children, the veterans, the troops, the nation, the Earth — and yes, the gays and other outcasts — the lepers, if you will. At the same time they voted for a man who instituted a tax cut that most benefited the wealthiest 1 percent among us; a man who plunged the nation into staggering debt and forced cuts in programs that support poor children, highways, veterans, troop pay and support (and levy maintenance, by the way). They crow about morality, and piety and virtue, while they support a war based on lies that killed many innocents...

And if you're gonna pray for anyone, pray for the poor, hungry, sick, persecuted, abused, tortured, pray for our dead soldiers, and the ones who'll never be the same, pray for the 500,000 dead Iraqis, pray for their families. Pray for the peace and comfort of anyone who has died as a result of a policy that you've supported. Pray for forgiveness.
