Because she is illiterate. She cannot read. She is a slow student.
Who was the last person you can remember that wrote anything on the palm of their hand? Was it in high school? Or was it grade school? Maybe fifth grade? Not only that, but scratch it out and correct it in ink?
She's a true tea bagger. She can make those bells ring.
But she has her supporters. The reasons they support her are numerous but the number one reason is she is not Barack Obama.
I try not to talk politics at work, or at least keep it at an acceptable minimum. But one lady asks me, "what's going on in politics?"
I said, "Sarah Palin is going to be the next President".
Then a guy in another cube says, "I sure hope so. It seems like things are a lot worse now than when Obama took office?"
Another lady in a close-by cube says, "Yeah, it seems like things are a lot worse now."
So this is what we are dealing with...
There is no memory. They remember nothing from a year ago. They do not read the Internet. They do not read newspapers. They mostly hear stuff here and there. And Sarah talks their language - simple and unrefined.
Barack Obama made a huge mistake. He over-estimated the intelligence of a large proportion of the American people. They do not understand or comprehend that the President must be optimistic. They did not understand the gravity of the circumstances we faced just over a year ago. These people do not remember or understand anything about that time. Or they refuse to remember?
Barack Obama needed to be more direct with these folks. He should not have said or insinuated that unemployment might reach 8%. Instead, he should have told these folks, "People, we are in some deep shit. We will not get out in 1 year or 2 years. It may take 5 to 10 years to recover from this disastrous Republican presidency of George W Bush. These folks that ran these huge unregulated banks have put great stress upon the economies of the world. Do not for one minute think that we are not all in this together..."
