7. The American Petroleum Institute Has Millions Of Reasons They Didn't...
The corporate media came of age during the boooosh years...money dictated what was covered and what wasn't. Since war coverage meant big money...millions of eyes watching and careers being made (who'd be the next "skud stud") they saw the Iraq invasion as a ratings Superbowl and couldn't cheer on the war mongering enough while ignoring the protests...they knew which side their paycheck was buttered. The same was the case with the oil and energy games of the early years. Enron threw millions in their pockets and no one could figure out why electrical rates went through the roof in California. Only after it was revealed then the corporate media slapped its collective head and said "who knew". Oil companies and their "non-profit" affiliates pump (literally) a lot of money into the media and thus how we ended with "Drill Baby Drill" and an environmental and economic disaster sitting in the Gulf.

The only time the corporate media camps out is when a free sweet table is set up...
