So the Coast Guard is in charge of the cleanup?

It really doesn't seem like they are doing too much. They burned a little oil on the surface. They're talking about bringing in more resources if BP doesn't do it first. I searched to try to find what they're doing and there ain't much out there. Can anyone provide me with links that show there's a well organized massive clean-up in progress under the direction of the Coast Guard. I sure would appreciate it.

The latest statement from the government isn't real encouraging:

<snip>
Napolitano declared the spill a crisis of "national significance" on Thursday. That's a move that Coast Guard Rear Adm. Mary Landry said allows the government to pour resources from across the country into the effort.

"If BP does not request these resources, I can and I will," Landry told reporters in New Orleans.
<snip>
Really, you dumbass mutherfucker? Any idea when that might happen? Well hey, no rush. Take your time. :rofl:

There are two distinct problems here. (1) How to seal the blowout volcano of crude, (2)and how to clean up the oil.

I'll accept that BP may be the only ones with the resources to fix the leak. (though I still have doubts about that). The clean-up is a different issue. These are our waters and coastlines and marshlands. We should be allowed to do whatever we need to do to protect them.

They need to chill with the toxic dispersant and let the oil rise to the surface, and get as many friggin' skimmers and Kostner-Vacs and good-'ol-boys with bales of hay, and whatever the hell it takes to clean it up as best as possible. Buy respirators and protective gear for the workers who are doing the job (ie: the fisherman who are fucked because of B fucking P). And then of course, B fucking P still pays the tab for all the workers and equipment, and all the other damage they've caused. Someone surely is capable of co-ordinating the project if the Coast Guard is this clueless. I mean, I could do it with my stage manager and rock and roll touring experience. You get the right equipment to the right place at the right time and you do the fucking show. If the Coast Guard is in charge, why are they waiting on BP to order up resources? It's bullshit that nobody has the capability except for B fucking P. There are skimming vessels available. We need every single one that exists on the planet in the gulf now.

I keep hearing that we can't legally do anything to take any power from BP. We have contracts and congressional promises to big oil. Well tough shit! When B fucking P blew off the EPA on the dispersant issue, that alone should declare all contracts and agreements and congressional deals NULL AND VOID! This is a national emergency, not an event of "national significance"! Other posters have scoffed at the idea that it's a national emergency, but I totally disagree. We need to drop the hammer on these greedy, incompetent mutherfuckers!

If these dudes were on a tour I was running, I would put 'em on the greyhound back to Duckburg.

Clusterfuck
