17. you just don't know a lot of teabaggers

there are plenty of young racists, in fact, i think many of the young are the most racist, because that brief period of time where we all went to the same schools and got to know each other, has vanished, and society is mostly very much segregated by race and class

rich/upper middles/aspiring now all send their kids to private schools, there is never a time where people meet and learn that people are really people, fellow human beings, even if they happen to be born poor

i WISH your observation was on the mark but it isn't even remotely close to reality

we had a brief moment in the mid-century where it looked like people were really waking up and shaking off their hatred, and in that time we have made some amazing strides fighting racism/sexism etc. but it has completely stalled out...and the die hard teabagger neo-nazi types are roaring back as full of hate as ever

the folks who consistently spam the entire internet with hate against "canadians" are NOT the over 70s, they're the kids...and that's damn scary

as for as gender equality, i have given up hope that it will happen in my lifetime, my generation made the most strides but ultimately all the benefit and cool jobs for women went to the upper middle class and the very beautiful women who married the right men, for the rest of us, we have actually lost ground and are pretty much completely despised -- and younger women know it perfectly well that they don't have equal chances in the job market, they're basically looking to make it by selling their ass, it might as well be 1800 or 1900, nothing has changed for most of us, we are either sex objects or we are considered to have nothing of value to society at all -- i realize it isn't just tea baggers and "christians" who despise women, but i see nothing to give me hope that i'll be considered equal in my lifetime -- of course, too much of my life has now passed for me to ever make up the lost ground/lost opportunity/lost earnings but i hate to see the same thing happening to younger women -- most of them just take it for granted that they have to strip for extra money or marry "a good catch" for extra money

it breaks my heart that, in 2010, the best way for a young woman to make a lot of money is to catch a rich man and have his child -- our society doesn't really believe that women have brains and it's promoted in the media constantly that this is our role...

the world is improving but so slowly that just waiting for the 70 year olds to die sure as hell won't help any of us alive today
