While Giuliani might be their best candidate in the general, he has little to no hope of winning the nomination.

Also, large numbers are waiting for Fred Thompson to officially enter.

The Republicans are very split right now - McCain would've been the obvious front-runner in previous years, but he's just coming across as old and addled now.

Romney is probably the frontrunner, but not by much, and when Thompson enters, the whole balance is upset.
