27. Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote musicals that had important social messages.
South Pacific, The King and I, Flower Drum Song, The Sound of Music and Carousel. They won a Pulitzer Prize.

Just an anecdote. Years ago I worked for a law firm on Madison Ave. in NY. We had several floors in a classic older building and my offiwce as on the 6th floor, the only floor where there were other tenants. One of those tenants was Richard Rodgers (he was quite old) and I saw him most every day. One day I got on the elevator with him and a young woman came on to the elevator. Between the 6th and 5th floor she started to hum, by the time we reached the lobby, she was belting out a song like (but not with the same talent) as Ethel Merman. Rodgers just walked on and I was hysterically laughing!
