I thought because I walk and am in pretty good shape I would be fine. My daughther flew out from Vermont and we went to try to get a last minute permit to camp at Bright Angel. They said it was filled and I was not about to pass up the chance to go down (my dream was to cross the bridge over the Colorado). South Kaibab is steep and was very harsh on my legs. the ranger ended up giving us tents and sleeping bags and letting us camp for the night. We hiked back up Bright Angel. I wouldn't have missed it for anything.
