I thought torture could have been a distraction from the economy

Isn't it a little weird that Obama unleashed the torture stuff when he did? What was the purpose? Why not sit on it a bit longer? Is it possible that Obama was trying to distract from the economy? The rumors about the "stress test" were getting out and they are going to wreak havoc on the economy...again. So why not engineer a really big distraction? Torture seems like a perfect option. It's a huge government scandal with all the big players involved and a significant chance for people to go to jail? If we're going to talk about swine flu being a distraction, then why not this?
