97. Equal Justice Initiative
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 04:28 PM by peacebaby3
The Equal Justice Initiative of Alabama is a private, nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to indigent defendants and prisoners who have been denied fair and just treatment in the legal system.

We litigate on behalf of condemned prisoners, juvenile offenders, people wrongly convicted or charged with violent crimes, poor people denied effective representation, and others whose trials are marked by racial bias or prosecutorial misconduct. EJI works with communities that have been marginalized by poverty and discouraged by unequal treatment.

EJI also prepares reports, newsletters and manuals to assist advocates and policymakers in the critically important work of reforming the administration of criminal justice.

Your support makes our work possible. Your contribution is critical to our efforts to reform the administration of criminal justice, challenge poverty in the Deep South and address the legacy of racial apartheid, segregation, and prejudice, and educate the public and policymakers about problems facing the poor and the imprisoned. Your support makes it possible for us to confront the hopelessness, fear, and anger that result in excessive punishments, imprisonment, and greater marginalization of the poor, people of color, children, and the mentally ill.
The Equal Justice Initiative is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Your contribution is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law and does not represent payment for goods or services rendered.
