There are excerpts from this book at Google and a few of the pages give a very detailed description of the aftermath of the crash, including how they brought Salem to a military hospital.

If you scroll down, starting with page 321 (the chapter is Kitty Hawk Field Of Dreams), it will provide you with information. This unfortunately, for teasers sake omits the take-off and most of the crash.

Why would the author make all of this up and in such detail? Maybe you should inquire at the hospital where Salem allegedly died?
