8. sadly what happened to that woman regarding the checks does happen
without going into too much detail, I was in the middle of a very tenuous marital situation. a dear friend/attorney advised me to open bank accounts and start to be prepared for the worst. however, as upset as i was, she warned me to be very careful about how to transfer funds and how to open the account as she told me that many banks will rat out women to their husband if they suspect a woman trying to set up accounts on the sly.

now i know that some people (men and women) may do so to be vindictive, however in my case it was to protect myself and my children. so i had to pretend to be setting up christmas and vacation accounts because of how many questions i was asked and I made deposits in only cash, so if you are in a bad situation, don't use checks with your spouse's name on them to set up a new account elsewhere, because someone could call them. (note, i am not advocating people draining and ruining a spouse but if you are in a bad situation you do have to protect yourself, many a man or woman has been caught off guard when their spouse goes off the deep end)

my friend told me that women are suspect in these types of situations and that they will get "ratted out" as she had been during her first divorce. i am not sure if this is true but i know in my particular circumstance the bank employee who helped me set up accounts kept double checking my story about my reasoning for setting up the accounts, it seemed so odd.
