Although I completely agree with your point about Democratic Comedians, Mike did provide some pretty fun moments, but he just wasn't able to carry things the way Joel did.

And when Trace (Dr. Forrester and the Original Crow), and Frank left, the show never was able to regain it's original charm, and I think that's a big reason why it was less animated and fun. Mary Jo and the gang did an admirable job as foils to Mike and the bots, but you can't replace someone like Trace. He was every bit as much heart and soul of the show as Joel was.

Besides, Joel was a genius. Mike is a good writer, but he isn't Joel and never could be, thus further vindicating your point about Democratic Comedians. :)

As much as I despise his politics, I can't blame the shows decline solely on Mike.

You should read the interview where he comes out though.
