Then at least we have some hope of learning from historical patterns and applying those models in new situations.

Most of the time, though, we get disinformation that is never corrected, or forces in the present try to overwrite messages from the past in an attempt to deceive us. Like when the Reptilian Republicans throw Jefferson out of the history books or claim that FDR's policies worsened the Depression.

If we conceive of the nation as being like an organism, then it is a demon-possessed one in which the demon keeps deceiving the organism's senses, perverting its internalized model of reality and leading it to make choices that lead to its destruction.
