Kathleen Kennedy Townsend Stumps for Clinton TODAY, in Wilmington;

WILMINGTON -- How can a woman with leadership qualities pursue the United States' top elected office without being assigned nasty labels or "emasculating" the men around her? That was the question Kathleen Kennedy Townsend posed to about a dozen people, most of them women, who gathered at Kid Shelleen's restaurant Saturday morning to discuss the campaign of Hillary Clinton.

Townsend knows a bit about the intersection of politics and leadership. She is the daughter of the late U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, who was assassinated when she was 16 years old, shortly after he won the California primary in June 1968. She is also the former lieutenant governor of Maryland.

Her uncle, U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, her cousin Caroline Kennedy, and her mother Ethel Kennedy all have endorsed Clinton's primary opponent, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

Townsend said she has known Clinton for 25 years and said Clinton has what it takes to accomplish real change -- experience, perseverance, and the ability to work with those who disagree with her.

"We keep saying Delaware is an important state," said Chris Lu, Obama's Delaware communications director who also serves as a top legislative aide in his Senate office. "We believe the state is very winnable."

"It's obviously an easy hop-skip-and-jump to New Jersey," he said, "and it's also a gateway to the Feb. 12 states, Maryland, Virginia and D.C."

Perhaps Obama is also trying to 'upstage' any campaigning for Clinton. That's what I think.
