Cuba voted best nation for mothers

This is according to Save the Children's State of the World's Mothers 2010 survey, which looked at 160 countries in total and determined that the Caribbean island provides the most superior conditions, the Latin American Herald Tribune reports.

It staved off competition from Argentina, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Chile, Columbia and Brazil, while in developed countries, Norway placed first in the rankings, in front of Australia, Iceland and Sweden.

The body issued a call to improve the number of health care professionals working in the poorest states, stating that 57 destinations face a "critical shortage" of such personnel and 50 million women annually give birth without medical assistance.

In addition, the publication called on countries to make investments in those women who are healthcare workers on the front line.
